Rising Damp

Rising damp is unhealthy, unsightly and can lead to timber decay. The causes of rising damp can be due to various factors, the failure of an existing damp proof course, bridging caused by the raising of external ground levels, or the complete absence of a damp proof course.

Solution

When rising damp is detected, Affordable Damp Solutions will install a remedial damp proof course using DryZone Diffussion Cream. The very latest in damp proof technology. This involves drilling into the mortar joints and injecting DryZone into the masonry to form a water repellent barrier.

No liquid is involved so the wall is quicker to dry. DryZone is low hazard, non-caustic and solvent free.

Woodworm

Woodworm infestation, the common furniture beetle is responsible for 70% of all woodworm damage in the UK. This beetle attacks softwoods and hardwoods. All woodworm damage can be attributed to woodworm larvae tunnelling out from the wood. This can seriously damage the wood and may lead to timbers being renewed!

Treatment for woodworm infestation

Once the type of beetle causing the damage has been identified it is easily treatable. Our most popular treatment is to douse the affected areas with organic boron (which is a water based product). This kills woodworm larvae, which could otherwise lay dormant for years.

Dry Rot & Wet Rot Control

The most serious cause of damage to timbers in buildings is fungal decay known as dry or wet rot. Dampness combined with lack of ventilation provides the ideal conditions for fungal attacks on timber. Dry rot surveying may require exposure work before the extent of the outbreak can be determined.

Solution

Affordable Damp Solutions will replace all defective timbers. All retained timber is treated using the latest fungicidal fluid to prevent further infection. Where required adjacent masonry is irrigated and the surface sprayed with a biocide fluid.

Modern, water based micro emulsion fungicides and biocides are low odour, low hazard and HSE approved. Treated rooms can be re-occupied after just one hour.
